INDEPENDENT LODGE
The original concept of Les Granges du Hautacam
Based on the concept of a dispersed hotel, Les Granges du Hautacam offer all the services and comforts of a hotel while preserving each guest’s freedom and privacy.
Each accommodation is independent, giving you complete autonomy during your stay in carefully designed and fully equipped chalets.
A breakfast service is available: delivered directly to your chalet or served in the dedicated reception area of the estate.
TRADITIONAL PYRENEAN FARM
history of the site
A genuine traditional family farm in the Pyrenees, the buildings bear witness to its agricultural and pastoral past.
Genealogical research carried out by Mr. Robert Lacrampe of the Société d’étude des Sept Vallées (Society for the Study of the Seven Valleys) has traced the farm back to 1594, when a certain Johannet de Carassus is said to have been the principal heir to the house of Saint-André.
In Pyrenean tradition, the eldest child, whether boy or girl, inherited the family estate. Thus, several generations followed one another.
The house, whose name in Gascon Occitan is “So de Crassus” or “Carassus,” meaning “facing south,” is the historic heart of this place. Inside, the dates engraved in the stone bear witness to its evolution and the passing of generations.
In the heart of the Pyrenees
Preserving the existing structure and identity of the place
Through its history and surroundings, the property reveals a strong identity deeply connected to nature.
As we are committed to preserving both the estate and its environment, we actively follow a sustainable tourism approach.
THE PROPERTY
Preserving the identity of the place, its history, and its environment was the guiding principle behind this project.
This is reflected in the respect for the property’s land unity and the non-artificialization of the soil through the renovation of existing buildings.
We wanted to restore this small mountain hamlet and its barns to their former charm, using materials that respect the local architecture.
THE ENVIRONMENT
Reducing our impact on the unspoiled environment in which we live is essential to us. Single-use plastics are eliminated, waste is sorted, a compost bin is available, lighting is provided by LED bulbs, towels are replaced only upon request, and access to the more remote chalets is via our electric carts on dirt and stone paths.
PASTORALISM
The promotion of pastoralism through the sustainable maintenance of a farm lease by a couple of farmers on site confirms the importance of this living heritage in the preservation of mountain areas and the life of our villages. Throughout the seasons, cows, sheep, and horses roam safely and freely on the various plots of land. In summer, when the animals have moved to the mountain pastures and high mountains, it is haymaking season…
LOCAL PRODUCERS
We prioritize local sourcing. In the village or just a stone’s throw away, you’ll find many local producers – honey, spit-roasted cakes, charcuterie, Pyrenean trout, cheeses, and more – carefully selected to bring you the best of local gastronomy. These are available in our on-site grocery at the reception and are also featured in our breakfasts.
SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES
We wanted the activities and entertainment offered on site to respect the tranquility of the surroundings. Storytelling and acoustic guitar promise wonderful evenings by the fire for moments of complete peace and quiet. Yoga and sports sessions take place outdoors when the weather permits, allowing you to fully enjoy this unspoiled environment.
